The Scientific Committee of CIDOB holds its constitutive meeting

The Committee, consisting of leading experts in the field of international relations, will be in charge of advising, evaluating and supporting CIDOB’s research quality.

Today, January 17th, 2020, the constitutive meeting of the Scientific Committee of CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) has been held. Antoni Segura, President of CIDOB, welcomed the session, during which Pol Morillas, director of CIDOB, presented the revision of CIDOB’s Master Plan, which should guide the work of the institution until 2021. 

With the aim of giving continuity to its current research priorities, CIDOB has reorganised and systematised its strategic research areas along thematic lines –Global geopolitics and security; Migrations; Global cities and metropolises; and Sustainable development– and regional lines –Europe; The greater Mediterranean; Latin America and the Atlantic space; and other regions of interest such as Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel and Asia-Pacific. Blanca Garcés, CIDOB’s research coordinator, has presented the content of each of them. 

To assure cutting-edge research with high policy impact in international issues, the Scientific Committee of CIDOB will be in charge of advising, evaluating and supporting CIDOB’s research quality, as reflected in the Statutes of the Foundation (article 32.2). The constitution of this Committee allows the incorporation of leading voices of experts for the promotion of critical analysis and the formulation of innovative policy orientations. Taking its traditional mission of linking politics and analysis as a starting point, and in order to ensure a better connection between knowledge and society, CIDOB constitutes a public good that contributes to improving the knowledge, dissemination and influence of global thinking. 

CIDOB also promotes innovation in the analysis of global politics, with the aim of transcending classical international relations structures and considering the growing impact of global phenomena on local realities. Innovation in research also involves opening up new lines of research to keep pace with current social transformations.
