The study aims to assess the state of integration and recommend how to adapt the Spanish reception model to current needs.

CIDOB and UNHCR are launching a survey to learn refugees’ experiences of reception, integration and inclusion as part of a study on the integration of beneficiaries of international protection in Spain.

The survey will be available online in five languages – Arabic, Spanish, French, English and Russian– until next January 31. The questionnaire takes about 15 minutes to complete and poses questions on housing, employment, education and health in order to learn refugees’ first-hand experiences.

The study, which also includes in-depth interviews, aims to analyse the experiences and paths of the beneficiaries of Spain’s Sistema de Acogida de Protección Internacional (SAPI) in order to identify which parts of this system have facilitated or hindered their integration and inclusion processes and to explore other practices and factors that have aided or posed obstacles to their long-term integration.

The ultimate goal is to make recommendations on how to adapt the Spanish reception model to current needs, in compliance with the state regulatory framework and EU directives, in order to facilitate a lasting solution for refugees in Spain.

The survey will be analysed by CIDOB’s Migration Area research team, including Blanca Garcés-MascareñasFrancesco PasettiJuan Ramón Jiménez-García and Olatz Ribera-Almandoz
