Communication and disemination assistant

CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) opens a call to hire a communication and dissemination assistant to contribute to the communication and dissemination tasks of the institution, and in particular within the framework of the research project "Bridges to assess the production and impact of migration narratives" – BRIDGES", on the production and impact of migration narratives. The person will work under the supervision of the Head of Communication and Coordination of CIDOB and the coordinator of the BRIDGES project, being closely linked to the research team and technical staff of the entity. It requires flexibility, creativity, organisational skills and collaborative spirit. 

Requirements:

  • University degree, preferably in communication sciences, journalism, advertising or related fields, specialising in digital and audiovisual communication.

  • A minimum of three years of experience in the field of the position, specifically writing and producing digital and audiovisual content, managing social networks, organising events and communication campaigns.

  • Excellent skills in news writing, headline generation and text editing.

  • Knowledge in video editing and digital analytic tools.

  • Knowledge in graphic design and production of infographics will be positively valued.

  • Excellent level of English, Spanish and Catalan (spoken and written).

  • Interest in the fields of study of international relations and migration.

  • Resolutive capacity, analytical skills and ability to work autonomously and in a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and updating, together with the project team and the Communication Department of CIDOB, of the Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication Plan of the BRIDGES research project.

  • Maintenance and updating of the web portal of the project, the newsletter and management of its contents.

  • Writing press releases and news resulting from the project and management of its social networks.

  • Creation of audiovisual material of the project, in video format (informative videos with images, short interviews, among others) and in audio format (podcasts).

  • Co-production of informative graphic material in infographic format.

  • Co-organisation of workshops, public events and academic and informative seminars of the BRIDGES project, both in face-to-face and webinar formats. 

  • Reference for communication and dissemination to the project consortium and its external network.

  • Collection and monitoring of the activities of the project partners, related to communication and dissemination, and preparation of supporting reports.

  • Contribution to other communication and dissemination tasks of the institution.

The project:

The main objective of the BRIDGES research project (funded by the H2020 programme of the European Commission) is to understand the causes and consequences of narratives about migration in a context of increasing politicisation and polarisation. The project focuses on six European countries (France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) with a triple objective: 1) at the academic level, to understand the processes of narrative production, their impact and their mutual interaction; 2) at the political level, provide empirical evidence to formulate and design policies and recommendations to address populist narratives and symbolic policies in the field of migration and integration processes; 3) At the social level, create spaces for dialogue between different actors involved (including migrants themselves) in the production of narratives, as well as encourage the exchange of good practices.

CIDOB is the entity that coordinates the project, formed by a consortium of 12 European entities. Among his responsibilities lies the leadership of work package 10 "Dissemination and communication", dedicated to the communication and dissemination of project results.

This project has received funding from the European Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, with grant agreement no. 101004564.

Position conditions:

Contract duration: full-time permanent contract, three-month trial period.

Foreseen starting date: as soon as possible, preferably from July 24th. 

Remuneration: €26,000 - €30,000 gross per year in accordance with the job category established in the CIDOB Collective Agreement and based on experience and merit. 

People from countries other than those of the European Union must provide a residence and work permit, in accordance with current regulations.

After the evaluation of candidatures, CIDOB will ask the finalist candidate (the candidate with the best score) to provide a copy of the academic qualifications and language certificates indicated in the requirements in order to verify their authenticity.

 Selection process:

The selection process follows the spirit of the principles detailed in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of the European Commission. 

The evaluation of candidates consists of two phases: 1) Pre-selection of candidates from the Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter. Candidates with the most suitable profile for the position will be selected, based on their education and studies, formal and informal qualifications, experience in the field of communication and level of accredited languages; 2) Interview phase, with the possibility of written evidence. The Evaluation Committee will assess the specific skills and knowledge of the candidates, as well as their suitability to the research group, communication team and the institution. Ratings will be scored from 0 to 10, detailing strengths and weaknesses. 

The Evaluation Committee is the body responsible for making a selection proposal and will be composed of four CIDOB members with complementary profiles. The Evaluation Committee shall promote gender balance among its members by: 

  • Senior management positions
  • Area Manager
  • Research Coordination

The proposed resolution of the call falls on the Evaluation Committee, which will prioritise the candidacies and name the applicant with the best score after a joint deliberation process on the finalist candidates. Based on the proposal, the Director of CIDOB will award the place to the best placed candidate.   

The results of the selection process will be communicated to applicants during the week of July 17, 2023.
