Macron's missteps in North Africa

Interview with Francis Ghilès, Associate Senior Researcher at CIDOB, analyses why French and European influence is declining in this region: “One of the problems France’s faces is that its influence in North Africa is declining relatively, as it’s that of Europe, not just because of the contradictions of its own policies, but because the president of China, the president of Russia, and the elites in North Africa are changing, they are more naturalistic, they are more prepared to counter Western interference, which is very visible in Tunisia […] We have a sort of situation which is changing on all sides”.
