A project for Europe. Reflections and proposals for the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union
In view of the challenge that it represents for Spain to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the half-yearly period that begins on the 1 January 2010, the Círculo de Economía and CIDOB – two Barcelona institutions specialising in scrutiny and debate – have drafted a document of reflections and proposals.
The view of the EU that is presented in the document – a strong, open Union, capable of providing solutions and defending the rights of its citizens in times of crisis, and at the same time involving itself in the resolution of the major global challenges – has been created in order to serve as possible inspiration for the Spanish government’s actions during the first half of 2010, as well as thinking to the future and helping to formulate a strategy for Spain in Europe in the years to come.
