A crucial electoral year for Europe: regulations and jurisprudence
During the period covered by this annual (January 2016 to June 2017), regulatory advances in terms of immigration and asylum entered a phase of inertia with highly limited reforms in the European Union setting, which essentially focussed on adapting the asylum system (Dublin IV) and on consolidating and giving greater effectiveness to migration management and border control instruments, as well as the return of non-nationals. At a time when key elections were called in various countries and were stalked by the ghosts of populism, the entry of refugees steadily fell after two very intense years.
