In preparation for COP26, CIDOB holds a two-day workshop on how to better integrate the green and digital transitions in cities
CIDOB’s Global Cities Programme and Barcelona City Council, in cooperation with the British Embassy in Spain and Glasgow City Council, and in partnership with C40 Cities and Eurocities, organise a two-day workshop in preparation for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) that will be held in Glasgow next month. The workshop brings together local policymakers experts, and representatives from private sector organisations to discuss how to drive and harmonise the green and digital transitions in cities. The conclusions of the workshop will be presented at Glasgow City Council during COP26.
CIDOB’s Global Cities Programme and Barcelona City Council, in cooperation with the British Embassy in Spain (in capacity as COP26 Presidency) and Glasgow City Council (as the COP26 host city), and in partnership with C40 Cities and Eurocities, organise a two-day workshop with the title “Bridging the Green and Digital Agendas in Cities to Drive more Ambitious and Inclusive Transitions”, to explore how cities can act as laboratories for integrating and accelerating environmental and digital agendas in ways that are truly sustainable and just.
The opening session, which explores how cities can formulate integrated and inclusive urban governance approaches to better address interactions between the climate and digital transitions, will be held at CIDOB on Wednesday 6th October from 6:30pm-8:00pm and live-streamed on CIDOB’s YouTube channel. The speakers include Pol Morillas, Director of CIDOB; Laia Bonet, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona for the Digital Transition, Mobility and International Relations; Hugh Elliott, British Ambassador to Spain; Angus Millar, Councillor and Chair of the Environment, Sustainability and Carbon Reduction Committee of Glasgow City Council; and Jeanne Holm, Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles, as well as experts from the African Centre for Cities, the Brookings Institution and CIDOB.
On Thursday 7th October, the workshop will continue with a series of online sessions, running from 9:00am to 5:30pm (CEST), that will dive deeper into key sectors of the twin green and digital transitions in cities: energy-efficient building and infrastructure, digital mobility solutions, and the circular economy. The workshop closes with a session on how urban data centres and data platforms can support the green transition. The second day brings together city officers, experts, researchers, and representatives from private sector organisations from across the world.
The conclusions of the workshop will be presented at Glasgow City Council during next month’s COP26, which will gather climate negotiators from 196 countries and the European Union, along with world leaders, businesses and experts to step up commitments and drive action for achieving the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
