CIDOB

During the meeting held this morning at the institution’s headquarters, the plenary session of CIDOB’s Board proposed Josep Borrell, head of European diplomacy for the past five years, as President of the institution, with the aim of strengthening the international positioning of this leading centre in the study of international relations. He will assume office soon, once the necessary administrative procedures have been completed.

The Board of CIDOB, meeting in an ordinary session this morning, has proposed Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission (2019-2024), to assume the presidency of CIDOB, once the term of office of the historian Antoni Segura has ended. The Board of CIDOB expressed its gratitude to Antoni Segura for ‘his commitment and dedication during the eight years he held the presidency of the institution’.

Josep Borrell will take office soon, once the necessary administrative formalities have been completed. With Borrell’s appointment, the institution’s highest governing body aims to strengthen the international positioning of this leading think tank, especially after the agreement of the institutions on the Board of CIDOB to embark on a new stage of growth thanks to the consolidation of CIDOB’s structural funding.

The Board has also been renewed with the entry of new individual trustees to replace the five trustees who, in addition to President Segura, have completed their term of office: Roger Albinyana, Dolors Folch, Albert Roca, Felip Roca and Lluís Torner. Esther Barbé, Professor of International Relations at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Senior Research Associate at IBEI; Josep Maria Carbonell, President of the Blanquerna-URL Foundation, and Pau Solanilla, Public Sector Partner at Harmon and Director of the Rafael Campalans Foundation, will join CIDOB’s Board at the next ordinary meeting, scheduled for June 2025.
