This issue of the CIDOB Immigration Yearbook reviews the immigration and asylum landscape in an electoral context. It primarily focuses on Spain, where 2019 has been an intense electoral year, but Europe and, to a lesser extent, the United States are also considered. The rise and consolidation of far-right and radical-right populists in all these regions is analysed, and it is noted that Spain is no longer an exception in these terms. The effects and high costs are examined of this shift for immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees in human terms and in terms of rights restrictions. The Yearbook also explores other relevant issues, such as the situation of unaccompanied foreign minors and migrant and refugee women on Spain’s southern border, as well as victims of trafficking in the country. Finally, an infographic annex of tables and figures is provided along with a new section containing reviews of books on immigration and asylum, which appears for the first time.
